Star Wars: Episode VII Cast Revealed

The official Star Wars Facebook page released an official image of a table reading for the forthcoming sequel earlier today. In addition to original trilogy alums Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, the picture, taken at a London film studio, features newcomers Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac. Andy Serkis, actor and motion capture wizard notable for his work in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Peter Jackson’s Tolkien films, also joins the cast, along with veteran actor Max von Sydow (not pictured).

The statement released on the Star Wars Facebook page reads as follows:

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer

While it’s safe to assume that Hamill, Ford, and Fisher (along with Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, and Anthony Daniels) will be reprising their roles from the original films, no roles for the new actors have yet been announced. Driver, most recently seen on the small screen in Girls, has long been rumored to be up for a part as the film’s antagonist, while Serkis will likely lend his technical expertise to the creation of an alien character.

Star Wars: Episode VII, directed by J. J. Abrams, is due out from Walt Disney Pictures in December of next year.

  1. Im hoping (King King) Andy Serkis plays the new Han Solo character. I love Andy so much, dude is awesome. Think he’d make for a badass smuggler, scruff nerf herder.

Look at Ford in that picture, chatting with JJ that suck up, I don’t see Andy in that picture. Looks like Hamil and teh dude to his right forgot to coordinate their outfits.

    • I think Andy is the guy in the round-ish chair at six-o’clock. Could be wrong, though.

And yeah, Serkis is a great actor; sadly underrated since his actual face is so rarely seen.

  2. I know! love the guy. i truly believed his role in King Kong, the one where he was seen on screen should have been nominated for an Oscar.
