There is Always a Bigger Fish: Top 6 Godzilla Baddies
“There’s always a bigger fish.” Qui-Gon Jinn
I was watching The Phantom Menace last night. Shut up. Don’t judge me. It’s one of my favorite guilty pleasures and has the best lightsaber fight of all the movies. Anyway, something Qui-Gon Jinn said, “There’s always a bigger fish,” Made me think of the upcoming Godzilla movie and all the monsters he’s fought!
Honorable Mention:
Yes, this really happened! Some PR genius at NIKE had the most brilliant of WHAT IF!? ideas. Godzilla VS Barkley. http://youtu.be/1oCF-QFuoYs
6. Rodan
Best Movie: Godzilla (2014)
Rodan has starred in his on feature and has fought or fought along side Godzilla few time but has never headlined a fight against the King of Monsters. His powers are fairly straight forward – flight and great speeds.
5. Anguirus
Best Movie: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)
Another of one of Godzilla original combatants. Anguirus never starred in his own feature but he did get to headline the first fight Godzilla ever had against another Kaiju in Godzilla Raids Again. Anguirus is considered one of the weaker kaiju.
4. Hedorah
Best Movie: Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971)
The monster that started it all for me – Hedorah. I stumbled upon Godzilla VS. Hedorah one late evening and since that day he’s been a personal favorite. Probably the most famous scene in any Godzilla movies is when Godzilla propels himself through the air.
3. Gigan
Best Movie: Godzilla vs Megalon (1973)
One of the heavyweights. Every inch of his body is a weapon. He and Godzilla met in Godzilla VS Gigan. He’s come close to defeating Godzilla a number of times but is defeated by his own bad luck.
2. Mechagodzilla
Best Movie: Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S (2003)
Mechagodzilla is the most iconic of all the monsters that Godzilla has fought. A robotic version of Godzilla. There has been many different Mechagodzilla, the most recent version was created from Godzilla dead skeleton, the King of Monsters DNA and robotics, making him Godzilla second most deadliest baddie!
1. King Ghidorah!
Best Movie: Destroy All Monsters (1968)
The baddest of the baddies and without question the most powerful of any of the monsters. You can make an argument for any of the kaiju I’ve listed to be off my list but not this guy. King Ghidorah or Monster Zero is Godzilla greatest challenge. A three-headed-space dragon, with the ability to flatten a city with a single wing flap, Monster Zero has never been beaten by Godzilla alone.
Great list! Thanks for reminding me that I need to treat myself to a Toho marathon before seeing the new flick.
You can’t go wrong when it comes Godzilla. Even the Mathew Broderick Godzilla had it’s moment.
Favorites
Godzilla Final War was more Power Ranger action than any of of them. Still the best.
With Godzilla 2000 and Destroy all Monsters a close second.
