Flash Tales #17: “Slaying the Dragon”
Since this prompt came at a particularly busy time of year, turn-out was a bit sparse (by which I mean non-existent!). This one is a bit too promising to let die, though, and quite a few people expressed an interest in writing a story based on it, so I’m breathing new life into the prompt this week!
PROMPT: Marduk did it, Michael the Archangel did it, St. George (pictured above) did it, and now we’re going to do it. This week let’s tell the story of slaying a monster; it might be real or imagined, but in the tradition of the medieval Romance I think there should be an action element to the story. Let’s hew closely to the archetype’s fantasy fundamentals, but a little departure into sci-fi or magical realism is more than okay. To make things interesting, I’m going to impose a new restriction, too: let’s write this story in the FIRST PERSON.
GENRE: Fantasy (slipstream is okay)
LENGTH: < 1,300 words
DEADLINE: Thursday, February 26, 11:59 PM
Curses! I’m not supposed to do anything else but work stuff and you toss a great prompt like this out! :-p
I have the beginnings of an idea, just need to find time to write it!
