F3, Week 24: All Rise…
Prompt by Joyce Juzwik
Jack McCoy (Law and Order), Ben Matlock (Matlock), Saul Goodman (Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul), and finally, my personal favorite, Perry Mason (Perry Mason). These are but a few fictional attorneys from TV land. We watched defense attorneys and prosecutors alike, each as different from each other as the cases they handled. There are also many fictional attorneys who fascinated us in films. There was Paul Biegler (Anatomy of a Murder), Mitch McDeere (The Firm), Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird) and Martin Vail (Primal Fear).
Whether a television show or a film, there was always that epic scene in the courtroom. Sometimes it was the attorney’s opening and at other times, his/her closing. There were also occasions when the most dramatic moment of the film or show was the testimony of a witness, or perhaps even the defendant. Even though both sides of the table thoroughly prepare for a trial, there is always the possibility of unexpected outbursts or last-minute evidence coming to light. The whole process is such an interesting one, and that is why so many are drawn not only to legal films and television shows, but also to the trials of offenders in the real world.
This week, we want you to reserve us a seat in the Gallery.
